thoughts on politics -- a dangerous place for an apolitical idiot who doesn't read newspapers
1. the whole deal with the mayor of ny ... i'm not saying that he's an upstanding guy. he's got a lot of grovelling and sorrying to do with his wife and family for the next 39 lifetimes. what i don't understand is how people can get on their sanctimonious soapboxes mewing for his resignation. it's not like he stole from the city or anything. so he's a horny asshole -- does that affect his work?
2. i can't remember what who said it, but there was some uproar about a dude who commented that the only reason why obama has gotten this far is because he's black. maybe so, but stop being so sore, old white guy, and run on the republican ballot then.
3. the pain of paying so much for gas nowadays hasn't escaped me. but if everyone else in the world pays the equivalent of $5/gallon, why are we bitching again?
4. i'm pretty sure my job is secure for next year, even though i was officially pinkslipped because i don't have the appropriate credential. it does beg the question though: why DOES the state always want to crap on schools? the weird thing is ... i don't feel like my school is going to be effected at all. we still have 90 million support staff people all over the place (including some guy who is the library sub??? why the hell do we need a librarian sub?) but for the rest of the school districts out there, i really feel for them. it does suck. and it's a terrible cycle. the young ones get the axe and have to find new jobs, while the old sucky tenured types continue to suck up funds for doing nothing. then come the new school year when money miraculously reemerges, you are stuck picking up some psycho to teach at your school. it's no good.
5. i'm thinking too much. i better go back to waiting for my kid to show up.

1. It's because when he was Attorney General of NY, one of the things he did was sanctimoniously break up a high-class prostitution ring. It's the hypocrisy that offends, possibly.
2. It wasn't an guy. It was a woman Democrat, Geraldine Ferraro. She is old and sore, though.
3. You're right, U.S.ers whine way too much about the price of gas. There is one difference though, that being the public transport options here suck compared to other places. But personally, I think that should change.
4. No argument from me about how sucky tenured teachers suck, and how we in general crap on schools. But I think this happened because CA is so severely underbudget the governor made a 10% budget cut all across the board. So not picking on schools in particular. You could (rightly) argue that schools should be given some preference and not be a part of the 10% cut. But I'm guessing once you start picking and choosing what to cut with a deficit so massive, it becomes a political nightmare.
