i may crack very soon if spring break doesn't come.
most people think that being a teacher is so great because you get all these vacations and the hours aren't as long as a regular 8-5. well, since i'm about to lose my mind anyway, let me dispel the myths.
1. contrary to popular belief, we do NOT get three months of vacation. you do professional development in june, preparation in august. and most teachers have to teach summer school anyway, so there isn't that much summer vacation.
2. christmas and spring break aren't luxuries -- they are NECESSITY. i may seriously kill someone or break down if i don't have a break from these kids whose hormones are flying and can't tell the truth for shit.
3. the hours may technically be shorter, but that doesn't account for all the outside of school hours you have to babysit delinquents, or activities you have to chaperone, or the papers you have to take home, or the extra hours you have to invest in reading up on curriculum and books accompanying curriculum and actually preparing curriculum. if i really want to write a good activity, it probably takes on average 3-5 hours to write a good 50-minute lesson.
i want to scream. i want to pick fights with people. i want to cry. i just want to curl up into a ball and disappear to a quiet place for a month. i want for my heart to stop being in a perpetual state of palpitation. i want to stop being so miserable all the time.
i'll save you some grief and stay out of your way, because i'm a horrible person right now. i'll be back when i'm human again.
