trying new things

this is my season of new things and trying new things.

1. i got married. nuff said.
2. i tried writing a differentiated activity for school.
3. i changed my name.
4. i tried to kill my father-in-law with this. (entirely another story)
5. trying to set the brides free!
6. learning to share.
7. being in an ltg with dong and janice ... oh wait ... that's not new. :)
8. celebrating chinese new year with BOTH our families.
9. watching karen get knee surgery ... oh wait ... that's not new either. praying for you!
10. being more purposeful about seeking the Lord.

11. making sourdough starter.

now ... this is by no means an exhaustive list. this is just all i can come up with when i see my classroom exploding with crap and i still have 8 damn essays to grade. i just wanted an excuse to post about trying to make sourdough starter. i am by no means a cheungabungah (i dreamt about your wedding last night, by the way) ... but i just wanted to see what would happen. it's quite a finicky process. i had to use our new candy thermometer (thanks svenssons!) to check the water temperature. too high and you will kill the yeast. too low and the yeast won't wake up. and then you have to watch and stir for 10 days. my poor honey is going to be sitting in the junk room, doing his homework and getting high off the yeast fumes. but it's nifty! and creepy! at the same time. because it's alive. now i have not a clue what one does with said sourdough starter besides making bread and english muffins, but if you hear of anything delicious, holla at me. i don't make bread well. the few times i've tried ... eh eh at best. mostly trouble with overkneading, but i didn't have a nifty stand mixer then. hmmm ... we shall see.

also, totally random, but we were surfing craigslist for bookshelves (again), and one popped with up, using their bookshelf as a display case for their one million plastic little horse figurines. (i am not talking about my little ponies, either.)
