scary morning

so one of our first assignments is the "me-llage" -- obviously, the collage about the student. since i'm not mad on getting kids to do work the first two weeks (instead spending time developing systems for the classroom), we've been doing a lot of gluing and cutting and pasting. they're just about done, so i started flipping through some of them and i found ...

a scary one. really scary. some of the things that were on it:
- the student's pic with his head in a noose, eyes x'ed out and blood trickling out of the nose and mouth
- s&w
- gang signs
- white supremacy signs
- a picture of a monster truck about to run over an asian woman
- guns
- men with guns

what is wrong with the children? who would teach them such things? it's really sad. and also just a little scary, because even though i'm still bigger than this kid ... mmm ... i just don't know.
