return of the garden

only vaguely related ... how STOKED am i that episode three is coming out! i know first one was a "nehhh" and the second one was a "urrrrggggh" ... but i loved episode six the best too ... so maybe this one will rock!!!!!

but anyhow ... on my yearly kick of "it's time to plaaaaaaaaaaaaaaant!," i went nuts yesterday both at the farmer's market with the german herb gardener and at home depot.

newly prepped ...
1. the ground. added clay mix to soften my soil. added food to make it happy. watered.
2. dug out old dead things. namely, a petrified cucumber vine and an equally petrified zucchini vine. and dug out the old dead strawberry plants. of the ten i planted last year, only one has survived the winter exodus. perhaps this year there will be a berry or two.

newly planted ...
i'm feeling it this year! i bought one MILLION different kinds of seed because somehow, like five loaves and two fishes, i believe that the Lord can magically multiply my garden in some way. so ... we shall see, shall we? i hope it's not too cold outside.
1. jalapeno plant
2. yellow bell pepper
3. purple bell pepper
4. old strawberry newly pruned
5. german winter thyme
6. genovese sweet basil

still huddling inside the house ...
1. two unknown-breed giant tomato plants
2. one sungold (orange cherry) tomato plant
3. one corn plant
4. one watermelon plant (the yearly singular attempt to grow fruit)

still in the bag ...
1. english peas
2. cucumbers
3. zucchini
4. cilantro
5. italian parsley
6. spinach
7. mixed lettuce
6. mixed greens
7. grandma's many-son squash
8. carrots

many thanks to jeanberry for being patient with me as i agonized over which plants to bring home, which shears to purchase, which pair of gloves would suit my needs the best. she rocks. and she even braved the attack of a rat to try and bring me a rake and shovel. now THAT's friendship.

no thanks to the janky weather, which continues to try and thwart my every attempt to bring my garden to life a second year in a row.

friends, place your organic veggie orders with your local friendly amateur gardener today!
