i think i wrecked a few childhoods today.
gave my first lecture for ap us history, and we talked about the black death in europe and the significance of "ring around the rosy."
then we debunked christopher columbus myths.
then we talked about how advanced native american civilizations actually were.
and we talked about how europeans, especially hernan cortes, nearly single-handedly wrecked the "new world." and why the hell do we call it the new world anyway? who's to say that europe wasn't the new world?
ahhhh. the ethnic studies inside came out. felt freaking good.
kids were horrified.
and wait until we start talking about pocahontas. there's a whole lot more "around the river bend" than they know. john smith, my ass.
bwahahahahahahaha.
