in class yesterday, we started a simulation called censoria. it's where i get to be a totalitarian dictator in class in order to show kids how the russian revolution and then the communist regime really were. kristin's class is the flip -- called harmonia, where free speech and freedom of thought is promoted all the time. it's pretty tough being the big B in class all the time ... esp with the masses chomping at the bit, but i hope it's worth the learning experience. it certainly makes me tired.

the funny story of the day yesterday comes with nick m., who is as little and as ghetto as seth green in can't hardly wait. he's managed to worm his way into my heart, even as he is scatterbrained and thinks he's black (or perhaps because of these things). so your grade in censoria is based on how many RUPPs you earn (russian units of power and prosperity) and you can earn a bunch if you promote "class consciousness" by saying things like "hail the glorious leader" and other like-minded nonsense. conversely, you can lose mountains of RUPPs by being disruptive or using monster profanity. (case in point: erika with -180 RUPPs within the first 5 minutes of class.) so kids are trying to alternately suck up to me (as the representative of the elusive glorious leader) or bash on censoria. so nick loses a bunch of RUPPs for "hella" this and that, and finally he's like "MISS CHIU. I ... LOVE YOU. YOU'RE ... BEAUTIFUL ... ?" and he looks at me with these puppy eyes that say "give me RUPPs, yo! gimme some RUPPs bay-bee!" and it was all i could do to keep from busting up.

ah. i love that kid.
