murphy's law extended ...

1. this morning, it took three people to open my door. that is because my current door is a fill-in until my real door shows up.
2. i had to teach from 8-3 straight. all blocks.
3. my 6th period class is now up to 44 students. that's 9 over the legal amount, 19 over the number promised me as a cornerstone of the smaller learning communities model.
4. honors student gives me a pain in the ass. i want to flick her. i will die if i have to advise her again.
5. my team spends two hours after school trying to get our numbers down, only to have our counselor tell us that we can do nothing about our class sizes.

welcome to the newly redesigned FHLC's ... freaking huge learning communities. a.k.a. your standard comprehensive high school.

ups ...

1. my freshmen advisory today -- as cute as a button. responsive and good natured. i honestly think the class of 2007 (our sophomores) just came with jerks.
2. my second period class of 15 kids. such positive energy ... so much good will. willing to work and incredibly encouraging to each other. reminds me that yes, honors and college prep kids can play together and bless each other.
3. MY TEAM ... err ... my school team. i don't think i'd still be standing if not for kristin, deb, meghan, andrew, owen, allie and cheryl. they are ROCKSTARS. marrakech stands together in the gap ... and we work together! (and booze together.)
4. MY TEAM ... err ... my bz. still feeling the warm fuzzies from his surprise visit. admired my zinnias and thought that i was pretty damn lucky.
5. Jesus ... who listens to me grouse morning and night (literally) and still blesses me so abundantly with great people in my life.
