a much neglected garden update:
1. second crop of carrots a bust. overshadowed and killed by the pumpkins. who knew squashes were so violent?
2. my grandma's many-sons-squash-plant? not a son.
3. strawberry-whaaaaat?
4. canteloupe-whaaaaat?
5. zucchini: the miserable one. i hope there are going to be more. one for me, the rest for jaz.
6. cucumbers: a few stray flowers ... but nothing is showing up yet.
7. tomatoes: well, i refuse to eat them ... but from the peanut gallery ... the general consensus is that they have good water content, but not the potent flavor usually due roma tomatoes. i might attribute that to their extraordinary size and shape. peter says they look ____ (ask him). but at least they are finally turning red!
8. the real surprise of the season are the pumpkins. they are EVERYWHERE. the vines stretch all the way down the walkway. they are prickly and no fun to touch. there are little pumpkins sprouting up and these monster flowers to boot. hopefully there will be lots of spooky pumpkins for the kids at baylight in time for the fall festival.
