0 for 4. zilch from the grad schools. the Lord ... He is CLEARLY steering me in one direction.

last week, i planted a garden. having never done this before (and being deathly afraid of bugs) ... this is quite a feat. but it was certainly one up from just watching tv. i went crazy at walmart. i planted all these different kinds of wildflowers and poppies and foxgloves and morning glories, and then i went nuts with the veggies. i planted tomatoes, peas, and carrots. and then i decided it might be nice to have some strawberries, so we got some of those. i was so so so sore from just squatting and planting and fighting the bugs and weeds ... man. i seriously thought it'd be magic like jack's beanstalk and everything would appear the following morning. no such luck. can you imagine that!

but here is a garden update ... after a week of diligent watering (with morning help from jenie) and dodging karen's crazyass spider (see kachiu's blog) in the backyard ...

1. the strawberries are growing leaves! i just bought roots ... and five plants (of ten, mind you) are sprouting these cute round leaves.
2. the peas are sprouting! i thought it was crap on the ground ... but a lot of the peas i planted (i must've planted like 30 of these suckers) are sprouting!
3. i planted a patch of wildflowers on the front lawn (we have a bald patch) ... and i am hoping that the little two-leaf itty bitties are my flowers and not weeds that are threatening hostile takeover.

the downside:
1. i think one of the tomato plants is going to die.
2. no news from the flower planter ... i think it might be not getting enough sun.
3. my gardenia plant is looking pretty sick. mary might be doing some voodoo on it.

i never thought planting could be so much fun. it's neat to see things grow. if only they came bug-free.
